"Lost Hollywood"

Hollywood's historic buildings & landmarks that have been demolished and lost forever.

Since 1911 Hollywood has been known as the movie capital of the world and is now visited by over 10 million people a year. Many of these visitors come to Hollywood, to visit the fabled places where their legendary idols lived, worked and played. Since the Golden Age of Hollywood many of these famous places have disappeared, these Hollywood landmarks and treasures are gone forever lost in the name of progress. Listed below are some of the more famous places that have been lost and replaced and are now part of the Lost Hollywood of yesteryear.

Ambassador Hotel. 3400 Wilshire Blvd. Demolished in 2005 is now a school. 

Brown Derby. 9537 Wilshire Blvd.  New shopping complex.

Ciro's nightclub. 8433 Sunset.  Now the Comedy Store.

Disney Studios (His First). 2719 Hyperion. Parking Lot.

Dino's Lodge. 8524 Sunset. Restaurant then owned by Dean Martin, and used for the series "77 Sunset Strip"  The lodge and buildings no longer exists but if you look in front of the doorway at 8524 Sunset Strip you will see a plaque confirming that the series was filmed here between 1958 to 1964. New development.

Fox Studios. 1428 N.Western.  Store and parking lot.

Fox Studios (Back Lot) 2000 Century Park East.  Now Century City.

Garden of Allah. 8152 Sunset. Now a Bank & parking lot. (a model of the Garden of Allah is inside the bank)

Hal Roach Studios. 8822 Washington. Roach sold the studios to his son, Hal Roach, Jr., who in 1962 lost it to creditors. The 14.5 acre (237 mē) studio, once known as "The Lot of Fun", was torn down in 1963 and replaced by light industrial buildings, businesses, and an automobile dealership, where a plaque marks the studio's location.

Hollywood canteen. 1451 Cahuenga.  Parking Lot.

Hollywood Hotel. 6811 Hollywood.  Bank & parking lot.

Hollywood Ranch Market.  1248 Vine.  Mini Mall.

Jayne Mansfields Pink Palace. 10100 Sunset. Demolished Nov 2002 for building land.

Knickerbocker Hotel. 1714 N. Vine. Now a retirement home. (although the original structure remains)

MGM Sets. 10202 Washington.  Now Condominiums.

Mocambo. 8588 Sunset. Parking lot.

NBC studios. 1500 Vine. Bank & parking lot.

Pickfair. 1143 Summit. Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford famous mansion. Demolished and New house built.

Schwabs Drug Store. 8024 Sunset. Virgin Megastore & shopping complex.

Trocadero. 8610 Sunset. Parking lot (the three entrance steps are all that's left in the far corner)

Universal Studios. (the original). 6100 Sunset. Now a Mini Mall.
