" Final Resting Place of Ricky Nelson"

Ricky Nelson
8th.May 1940 - 31st.December 1985.
Born: Eric Hilliard Nelson. New Jersey.
His regular appearance on his parents US hit show "Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet Nelson", based in their own house in Hollywood, made Ricky a TV star in the early 50's. His clean cut image and good looks were seen as the teen alternative to Elvis Presley in the 50's. Signed with Verve records in 1956 and had his first hit with a cover of Fats Domino's "I'm Walkin".  His signing with Imperial Records in 1957 proved the turning point in Ricky's singing career. He went on to have numerous hits on both sides of the Atlantic until the early 60's, with  records aimed at the teenage market.  The shortening of his name to Rick in 1961 coincided with a change of image and a recording contract with Decca US. He now aimed his records at young adults with songs such as Bob Dylan's "She Belongs to Me". Formed his own band in 1971 "The Stone Canyon Band" with leanings to country rock. His 1972 hit "Garden Party" summed up his feelings about audiences who regarded him as a rock n roller and nothing else. This proved to be his last hit but Ricky continued to tour giving audiences what they wanted, all his old hits. His revival tours proved a great hit and together with Del Shannon & Bobby Vee toured the UK in 1985. Ricky Nelson was killed together with his fiancée & band when his plane crashed, en route to a concert in Iowa, in December 1985.  The rock n roller with the boyish looks and who was never allowed to grow up, left a legacy of hit songs which can still be heard today.
