Marc Bolan.
30th .July 1947 - 16th. September 1977
Born Mark Field changed his name to Bolan for debut single "The
Wizard" on Decca in 1966. Joined with Steve Took to form folk - rock duo
Tyrannosaurus Rex in 1968. Spilt from Steve Took in 1970 , switched to electric guitar
and launched T- Rex as a rock band. "Ride a White Swan" became a
No.2 record in late 1970 and Marc became a rock idol. T-Rex went on to become
one of the best known groups of the 70's enjoying 14 hit singles and 4 albums
until Marcs untimely death.
Marc Bolan died
when his Mini hit a tree whilst being driven by his girlfriend, American singer Gloria Jones.
His marker is located in the Keats Rose Bed, in Golder's Green Crematorium, Golder's Green, London.
