Rock Legend who died of a drugs overdose.
Born Johnny Allen Hendrix, which was changed to James Marshall Hendrix in 1946,
Seattle, Washington. Jimi Hendrix spent his early career as back up musician to
the likes of - B.B.King, Ike & Tina Turner, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, Little
Richard, Wilson Pickett, The Isley Brothers etc. Moved to swinging London in the
mid 60's where his outrageous guitar performances, on his Fender Stratocaster
guitar, were watched by the Beatles & Eric Clapton. A master showman Jimi
used all the tricks he had learned from watching the American greats he had
worked with and soon caught the eye of Polydor. His first single "Hey
Joe" reached No.6 in the charts in 1967. Jimi went on to appear at
"Woodstock" and become a major album artist before his final live
appearance at the "Isle of Wight Festival" watched by 250,000 people.
Years of drug abuse took its toll and Jimi was pronounced dead at Kensington
Hospital, London on 18th. September 1970. Without doubt Jimi Hendrix remains the
most legendary rock guitarist of his generation with a vast catalogue of music
still available.
