Gossip columnist for the New York Journal-American and a panelist on the popular game show "What's My Line" was found dead in her New York City apartment on November 8, 1965. Dorothy Kilgallen died strangely and suddenly after her involvement in the Kennedy assassination. Dorothy Kilgallen was the only journalist to be granted a private interview with Jack Ruby after he killed Lee Harvey Oswald. Judge Joe B. Brown granted the interview during the course of the Ruby trial in Dallas. Dorothy Kilgallen stated that she was "going to break this case wide open." She died on November 8, 1965. Two days later Mrs. Earl T. Smith, a close friend of Miss Kilgallen's died of undetermined causes.
