J.P.Richardson alias "The Big Bopper" was a top Texan DJ during the late 50's. He had a worldwide smash hit with "Chantilly Lace" and minor success with his follow up record "Big Boppers Wedding". He also wrote the Johnny Preston hit "Running Bear". It was due to  the success of "Chantilly Lace" that he was invited to tour with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens  in January/February 1959. Due to severe cold weather and the fact that their tour bus was freezing, Buddy chartered a small plane to fly to the next gig. The Big Bopper died that night together with Buddy Holly & Ritchie Valens when the plane crashed just after take off in Clear Lake, Iowa on 3rd. February 1959.
