"Griffith Park & Observatory, Griffith Park"


The largest municipal park in the US covers over 3000 acres in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. Horse riding, hiking trails, picnic areas are just part of the attraction of this park. The observatory houses an astronomy museum, daily laser shows and free evening use of a giant Zeiss telescope to view the stars. The Observatory has appeared in many films perhaps the most famous being "Rebel Without A Cause" starring  James Dean The knife fight scene was filmed here and there is a bust & plaque of James Dean commemorating this at the outside steps. The park also contains; The LA Zoo, Gene Autry Museum,  28 tennis courts, 4 golf courses, miniature railway and merry go rounds for small children plus plenty of convenient parking. Countless other films have been filmed here including The Terminator - Jurassic Park - The Rocketeer - Batman - Bonanza - Beverly Hillbillies etc. to name but a few .
